Produce Clerk – (Seattle & Tukwila Store)

TITLE: PRODUCE CLERK

REPORTS TO: Produce Supervisor, Produce Assistant Manager, Produce Manager

STATUS: Full Time/Part Time
DAYS/HOURS: 2-6 days, 15 – 40 hours (depend on status & availability)

JOB SUMMARY

This position is responsible fulfill produce needs of the customers by ensuring a great selection of fresh, quality produce are available at all times, trimmed and displayed properly.

DUTIES

CUSTOMER SERVICE

  • Always greet the customers with a smile and thank you. Be courteous and respectful.
  • Learn products for better service, advise customers of quality, freshness and availability of products and assist/direct customers to product location, both produce and other department’s products.
  • Provide customers information on product use and benefits. Offer recipes and menu suggestions, information on products and cooking techniques. Cross merchandise and cross selling when opportunities arise.
  • Offer samples of produce to customers when appropriate and approved by manager.
  • Handle customer complaints and if necessary, contact the Produce Manager or other management team.

PRODUCE DEPARTMENT

  • Provide quality produce by culling, trimming, wrapping and discarding substandard items.
  • Adhere to and maintain all washing and crisping of vegetables procedures.
  • Monitor product movement and maintain adequate stock on racks/displays in a presentable manner.
  • Check produce daily to ensure freshness, good presentation and quality meet department standards. Re-trim, cull, rotate, fill and discard substandard items.
  • Spray vegetables with water to maintain freshness and attractiveness.
  • Ensure all tags and price labels are accurate and in compliance with COOL (Country of Origin Labels).
  • Store products received in proper locations.
  • Maintain a clean and organized department. Keep both front and back of the department clean, uncluttered and clear of debris including aisles, cooler/display racks, walk-in coolers, storage areas etc…

PREFERRED SKILLSETS, QUALIFICATIONS, REQUIRED PHYSICAL ABILITIES and ADVERSE WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Excellent customer service.
  • Prior retail experience and knowledge of Asian produce is preferred, but not required.
  • Flexible schedule, which may include weekends and holidays.
  • Standing for long period of times.
  • Able to frequently lift up 35-50 lbs. and occasionally lift up to 70 lbs.
  • Lifting, bending, hauling and stacking.
  • Cuts from the use of knives.
  • Exposure to cold/wet conditions.
  • Pesticides, bleach and other cleaning chemicals.

Training: 

  • Training for this position will take place at our Seattle store for a period of 4-6 weeks
